With the release of the Phoenix Province Series, Book 2- Blade of Embers, I thought a reintroduction of the heroes in this series was in order. The Phoenix Province is a fairytale retelling loosely based on Cinderella. Rillion, or Cinderillion of the Phoenix House feels that she is destined to become a great warrior. However, her father, Regent Kenrich of the Karm Province wants her to learn how to become a proper lady. Her lofty ideas of leaving their struggling province to travel to the elusive White City are out of the question. He has other plans for his only child. Sterlyn, from the Raven House of Kaim Province, is the second born forgotten son. His older brother, Bartram is destined to become the next Regent in line, whether he wants to or not. This is his legacy. This is what is expected of Bartram. What is expected of Sterlyn is something he wants no part of...or so he believes. Sterlyn has his own plans in place... He has been best friends with Rillion of Karm since they were young children. Over time, his feelings of friendship have matured into love, but he fears she may never feel the same. He is so wrapped up in what he wants, that he is blind to the treachery going on all around him. A treachery concocted by his own father and brother in an attempt to save themselves and their lofty positions in ruling the province. Rillion isn't quite as blind to what is happening, but she feels helpless to stop it. Neither Rillion or Sterlyn realize what they are up against until it is too late.
If you don't design your own life plan, chances are you'll fall into someone else's plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much. Life is a journey, don't you think? Every step we take requires a choice we must make. It's important for us know keep our eyes open and know what is what, as Juniper the Okbold would say. If we don't figure out our true purpose, we risk someone coming along and taking that choice from us. And there's little hope that their plans for us will truly amount to much.
To venture causes anxiety, but to not venture is to lose one's self...and to venture in the highest is precisely to be conscious of one's self. Sterlyn fights so hard against his father's aspirations in an attempt to attain his own dreams and desires that he nearly missed what his true purpose in the kingdom is meant to be. It's so easy to think we have all the answers. It's also easy to be swayed what those around us tell us we should or shouldn't do. If we truly wish to know the truth, then we must look up and seek the Father of Truth who has known before we were born what our purpose in this life is. You can check out both books on Amazon if you want to read more about Sterlyn and Rillion's story. Or visit the Chronicles of Alburnium page to learn more about the complete series.
