I recently did a exclusive release of a prequel short story to introduce my new series, The Chronicles of Alburnium. Veiled Blossom introduces Miltie during her trip to Aloblase with her new husband, Tarlton.
As I've shared before, The Lionhearted Province is the first three books that are a retelling of the Maiden Without Hands. While I wrote Blood and Water, Miltie's early story began taking shape. And when I came across another Grimm's fairytale called the Riddle Tale, well, something clicked. If you've not claimed your copy, it's not too late. I'm offering it for free to all of my reader friends. If you're looking for a short, feel-good read, go grab your copy of Veiled Blossom. Coming June 30th... the first in my three book Lionhearted Province tales-- Blood and Water will release. Until then... enjoy this little sample. And please, come back here and let me know what you thought.

It seemed like I was at odds with everyone. Arguments flew back and forth daily. I felt discontent and disappointed in myself. And I felt the distance between me and God growing like an opening chasm. My heart had taken a beating. It didn't feel dead, though. But rather prickly. Don't get too close or you might get poked too. My greatest desire was to simply be left alone. And sometimes, the trials of daily life leaves our ground dry and our heart full of thorns. It does mine. Long ago, I was hurt in the kind of way that sticks with you through waking moments, and sleeping moments, and clouds how you see the world. Hurts happen in this life, I've learned. Simple hurts like paper cuts, and deep woulds that leave scars and marks. The Bible says, "In this life, you will have trouble, but be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world." John 16:33 What happens when we are hurt is that something takes over, something that we feel justified to hang onto, something we might have a very hard time letting go of. Something that can turn our hearts to ash if we do not find a way to ditch it. There's many reasons we're are warned to forgive the hurts this world heaps on us. Unforgiveness blinds us to the joy this life has to offer. Summer is quickly approaching, isn't it? The long, hot months are a great time to lose yourself in some fun, clean reads. There's something delightful about walking out my back door in the early morning to see how my garden sanctuary is doing.
The mornings are always crisp, slightly damp with dew hanging in the air, and bright with sunbeams blasting through the budding tree branches. I'll close my eyes, breathe in deep, and listen... There's a hum of anticipation in the air The birds are always most boisterous in the mornings A cool breeze brushes over my face. When I open my eyes again, I'm amazed by the freshness of the morning. Light glistening off the damp grasses, A soft glow illuminating the flowers in the hanging basket, And new buds opening their delicate petals. His mercies are new every morning... says His word. The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22 We don't have to worry... he cares for the birds of the air, dresses the fields of flowers in finery, and knows the number of hairs on our heads. "Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows." Luke 12:7 I love the mornings, because whatever happened the day before is gone. Whatever dreams plagued my slumber have dissipated when I opened my groggy eyes. Today is a new day. The only day I really need to worry about. One moment at a time. "Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?" Luke 12:25 & 26 Let's remember to let go of the baggage that slows us down. Shake off the fears that hinder and take a lesson from the birds-- Today is a new day, make the most of it. Sing praises. Open your hearts. Let His light warm you, comfort you, feed you. Amen. |
