Welcome to the Spring Into Christian Books Blog Hop!
Thank you for stopping by.
Spring is almost here! Fresh blooms, the leaves bursting from dormant trees, and (hopefully) warmer weather. I know some of you are still dealing with snow storms. Here in Texas, the storms have consisted of a ton of rain and fierce winds. Then, the next morning, the sun peeks out, everything sparkles, the fresh loamy scents fill my senses, and hope for better days ahead blooms! Today I'm sharing a fun little story with you that I wrote one spring several years ago. It's just a silly little piece about Spring's arrival, but I hope you enjoy it. After the story, there will be an offer to leave a comment for a chance to win one of my novella collections. Details at the end of post. And finally, you'll find the links to all the other Blog Hop participants at the very end. Thanks again for stopping in! Grab yourself a cup of tea or coffee (or whatever your favorite beverage is) and let's visit for a spell while I tell you all about Spring's Folly... Spring's Folly
|
Spring arrives, dropping her bags at the door with a loud bang. She shakes the dew from her clothes, splattering the earth with scattered drops.
One look around at Autumn’s artistic jaunts, along with Winter’s blustery parties, and Spring knows she has her work cut out for her.
Summer isn’t really a mess maker, unlike those other two. However, she is a bit persnickety about keeping things in quiet order. Which is why Autumn and Spring have to maintain some space between Summer and Winter. If they didn’t moderate the situation, Winter’s rowdiness would send Summer into all manner of stormy hysterics. Summer, for the most part, enjoys sitting around like an old mother hen, heating up the earth. Oh, every once in a while, her feathers get ruffled for some reason or another, and she’ll stir up an impressive thunderstorm. This generally happens when Winter gets restless and blows a cool front her way, disrupting her peaceful season. He can be such a scamp. No, Summer prefers to sit and roost, drinking iced tea and relaxing beneath the sun as she watches the grass turn brown. |
Every year, Spring returns to the same mess:
Autumn is such a show-off, painting the leaves into brilliant colors of red, yellow, purple, and orange before casting them off like crumpled sheets of paper. Winter, of course, is too busy bullying everyone with his cold blast to help clean up the mess. Instead of taking a moment to sweep away some of Autumn’s cast-offs, he throws a blanket of snow down to cover it up.
Then there’s Summer--
Miss Lazy-Dog-Days herself. |
Ah well, she is quite used to it by now. She comes prepared to roll up her sleeves and get to work. First, she’ll whip up the winds, blowing the debris left over from Winter’s parties with the Chill brothers, Frost and Snow.
Yes, out it goes, old leaves, trash, hats, umbrellas—all blown into hither and beyond. After sweeping, she brings out the buckets and mops from storage and washes and scrubs. Finally, she walks outside one morning and realizes how wonderfully everything shines.
Spring will then pause, catching her breath as she admires her handiwork.
Oh, what’s this?
Winter has had one more soirée in the Northern regions. Grumbling, Spring starts all over again— blowing, scrubbing, rinsing, and chastising Winter for infringing on her season. What nerve! She would make sure to send him a calendar for Christmas with everyone’s seasons circled. Oh wait, she did that last year. And the year before.
Spring sighs, knowing such is Winter’s ill-mannered ways. Another reason Spring tries hard to make sure everything is in place before Summer arrives. If she didn’t, the hot/cold war would rage and the poor people are left wearing coats and shorts all in the same day. Such chaos!
|
Eventually, Winter traipses off to bed, needing to sleep away the effects of his merry-making. Spring checks her clock, adjusting as necessary, then hurries to add her own special touches. Autumn isn’t the only talented one in the family. Spring sings a happy tune, as she sets out her colorful decorations. The earth is soon covered in soft greens, magenta, yellows, purples, and blue blooms.
Once everything is cleaned up and in place, Spring collapses in exhaustion, surveying all her work. She no more than sets out a tray of tea and biscuits before the door flies open. Summer bustles in, fanning her sweaty face as she drops her bags in the foyer.
“Well, here's a fine how-do-you-do. Is this how you spend your days? Lolly-gagging around with a pretty cup of tea and dainty biscuits while you kick up your heels and relax? Tut, tut. I came in a nick time. Things need heating up around here.” And so it goes…. |

That makes ME smile! =D
I really loved reading your short little story of the seasons!!! I actually felt a little sad for Winter as Spring was complaining so!!! How marvelous it would be to truly color our world with words!!!! But then, there would always be someone around that is in a terribly awful mood that would come along and decide to color the world with HIS words, and Lord help us all then!!!
After reading your little blurb and then the comments of others, I am really looking forward to reading every book in this bundle!! This sounds and feels just like the books that I adore reading, and would absolutely LOVE to win this bundle!!!

Loved, loved, loved your story, and the pictures... oh my, just gorgeous and beautiful. It flows beautifully with the story and I'm hooked with your writing ability, so calm and peaceful. Thank you so very much. I had such a tiring day, but then I clicked on your email. Can't thank you enough.
I appreciated your little ditty on the seasons. Uplifting , and so true! And well written. It’s ironic that your set of books take place in Madison creek township. My elementary school was Madison township elementary . It brings back fond memories. Sadly it was hit by a tornado two separate times and was closed down. Guess God had different plans for it. Thank you for being who you are. God bless
