The Chronicles of Alburnium... Introducing the Antagonists

Last time I posted about the new Chronicles of Alburnium series, we met the main characters of Blood and Water- book one. 

Today, I want to share some about the opposition team. In the Grimm's Fairytale of the Maiden Without Hands, there is a wizard, in some version, or sorcerer, in others, while a few even call him Satan. Which fits, really.

This wizard follows the young maiden hero all through the story, trying to make her life miserable. Doesn't that sound familiar? 

Anyway, I decided to use the term interchangeably and crated a master wizard who belongs to a group of rebel wizards that call themselves The Brethren Order. Wizards, in this story, are for the most part a mix of human and creature, though that is not always the case. These half-breed races have special powers and some use them for good, while others use them for their own personal gain. 

This is the group we will meet in the first story: Blood and Water. 

​First, let's meet Fajer the Conjurer.

Fajer the Conjurer 

Fajer is part elf, part human, as the majority of the Wizards are. He travels the land for his Order, making deals and collecting people with special giftings. 

The Brethren have found a way to take a person's gifting and make it their own. 

Fajer travels around in a brightly painted caravan that he shares with his new apprentice, Grunt. His main occupation is searching out gifted children of the Provinces, especially those living in the smaller towns that struggle to keep themselves fed.

​Then Fajer will come in with his charms and tricks that amaze the people, and make deals with a family, promising them gold or good fortune in exchange for a parcel of land, or other not so valuable thing. It's usually days or weeks before the family realizes they've been tricked into giving up something precious to them for the wizard's gold. 

The Apprentice Grunt

Fajer's apprentice is a young mage who has wandered the land for some time as an outcast. Fajer took the lad on because he knows this young man possesses amazingly special powers, though he's very secretive of his past and where he came from.

The boy seems older than his years, in both mannerisms and knowledge. Yet, he's eager to learn all he can from Fajer. The boy, who Fajer has taken to calling Grunt, is unwilling to pledge his allegiance to the Brethren Order, or anyone else. 

The apprentice hates being called a grunt, but since he refuses to give anyone his true name, this is the one he must go by. He's been called worse. 

Grunt has no desire to pledge himself to anyone. He only wants to learn what he can from the master wizard, then he'll move on. He must learn how to increase his power because he has a plan. A plan to destroy the kingdom Provinces until, one day, he can take everything from that Light King​. 

Anwynn the Elf

Anwynn joins Fajer the Conjurer and his apprentice, who she calls Mutt, about half way through the story. She is not part human, as most wizards are. Matter-of-fact, she's not really a wizard at all.

​She's an orphaned elf who lost her family and colony after a band of trolls destroyed their village in the Mire Woods. 

Intent on finding a way to get revenge, she joined the Brethren Order, seeking their help. But because she's a pure elf, nobody is willing to take her on as an apprentice. Until she noticed the oddity that the famous Fajer the Conjurer has traveling with him. If the wizard will take on some like him, well, maybe he'd be willing to take on her. 

You'll have to read Blood and Water to find out what happens.

Following Blood and Water, is the continuation of this fairy-tale retelling of the Maiden Without Hands. Book Two- Silver and Light, which should release sometime in October 2018, finishing up with Gold and Fire, releasing in early 2019. 

But there will be more!
